Fairhill School and Diagnostic Assessment Center

Mission Statement Fairhill

Fairhill is dedicated to providing the best possible education to learning different students, emphasizing each student's unique pattern of information acquisition, processing, and expression. To accomplish this, Fairhill focuses upon academic, social, and emotional development. Fairhill guides its students in "learning to learn."

Philosophy

Fairhill School is a private, non-profit college preparatory school serving students in grades one through twelve. Fairhill's primary purpose is to provide a superior education for studentsof average and above intelligence who have been diagnosed with a learning difference such as Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, Auditory Processing Disorder, or Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. Fairhill students possess the intellectual potential to succeed academically, often at superior levels; however, because of a learning difference, these students have experienced great frustration in traditional school environments, resulting in academic performances that do not reflect their potential.

Fairhill's staff guides individual students in "learning to learn" through a multi-sensory approach to teaching, a small student/teacher ratio, and a warm, supportive atmosphere. At Fairhill each student is recognized as an individual with a unique pattern of strengths and weaknesses. A Fairhill education is designed for the whole child, to develop a firm foundation in problem-solving and critical thinking skills that will enhance emotional, social, and academic development.

While many Fairhill students choose to complete their high school education and graduate from Fairhill, many others successfully transition to public or private schools of choice after recognizing the nature of their learning style and developing appropriate study and organizational skills.

Fairhill Diagnostic Assessment Center

The Diagnostic Assessment Center offers all levels of assessment batteries to meet the individual needs of each client from childhood to adulthood. Services range from a basic update of academic achievement to full psychological and psycho-educational evaluations. The Center is open daily from 8:30 AM until 5:00 PM. Our Philosophy

Key School recognizes each student as an individual who deserves the opportunity to reach his or her academic and intellectual potential, regardless of previous educational experience, learning difference, physical limitations, race, color, national origin, sex, religion, or age.

Small group and one-to-one instruction in language and other academics gives each student the opportunity to reach his or her educational, professional, vocational and personal goals.

Our Goal

The goal of Key School, to provide a positive and effective learning environment for each student, is accomplished through efficient organization of intellectually exciting curricula, effective instructional methods, and specially trained teachers who assist each student in successful achievement of personal and academic goals.

Through small group and one-to-one instruction, each division of Key School is directed toward returning the student to the mainstream of education and independent learning.

Our Beliefs

Each student is a valued individual with unique physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs who deserves the opportunity to reach his or her academic and intellectual potential.

Key School creates an atmosphere of support that is designed to help students cultivate an appreciation for the ethnicity of others and an acceptance of physical and learning disabilities.

Assessments should be fair, conveyed with a lucid explanation so parents and faculty clearly understand the goals and results, and utilized as a mechanism for developing expectations for student learning.

Appropriate and integrated curricula, which fulfill the requirements for academic credit, are modified, augmented, and enriched for the unique learning style of each student and specifically designed to maximize each student's potential and serve as a catalyst for the internalization of concepts.

By using diverse methodologies in the classroom setting, students are provided a variety of opportunities to apply learning strategies, to demonstrate academic achievement, and to develop new skills.

Students learn in different ways and are provided an individualized schedule designed to meet his or her specific strengths, weaknesses, and academic goals.

Students deserve encouragement from trusted mentors to guide them in making good decisions.

Students deserve a caring staff that will direct all efforts toward continuous improvement.

Academic growth is the result of a strong emphasis on the basics, a well-rounded curriculum, and appropriate academic challenges.

The school encourages a strong work ethic, a high standard for personal accountability, and a keen sense of moral understanding.

Students should exhibit high ideals of citizenship: take responsibillity for personal actions; respect authority; value the diversity and interdependence of all people; act ethically with honesty, fairness, and integrity.
