The Spalding Method is a multisensory language arts approach effective with K-8 general and special education students. Two post-graduate courses drawn from the text, “The Writing Road to Reading” by Romalda Spalding, are designed for general and special education teachers, administrators, curriculum, speech, reading, and dyslexia specialists. The initial 45-hour course, Integrated Language Arts 1, emphasizes spelling, the foundation for both reading and writing. ILA 2, (45 hours) emphasizes comprehension and composition and reinforces spelling and grammar. Diagnostic procedures are refined in ILA 2 to enable participants to adjust instruction to meet all students’ needs. Spalding Certified Teacher Instructors are available for on-site follow up and support after each course. Twelve colleges and universities offer graduate credit for both courses. Spalding courses are offered in multiple locations throughout the United States and in Australia and Singapore.
