The Shedd MSL Training Center is founded upon many of the multisensory structured language principles established by Dr. Charles L. Shedd. The Shedd materials involve the Alphabetic-Phonetic Structural-Linguistic (APSL) Approach to Literacy with curriculum ranging from beginning reading through college level concepts. In addition, structured materials were developed for content areas, such as math, sciences, social studies, etc. The Shedd MSL Training Center provides training seminars as well as certification training at both the Teaching Level and the Instructor of Teaching Level.

The Structured Language Arts Multisensory Education Program (SLA) is designed to train teachers in research-based methods of reading and writing instruction for individuals with language-based disabilities. The program is administered through The Brighton School, a private K-12 school for students with dyslexia and related learning differences. In addition to the basic Orton-Gillingham based curriculum, teachers at the middle and high school levels are taught curriculum adaptation, reading and writing remediation across the content areas, and use of assistive technology.

The MSLE Certificate Program requires 250 class hours and a minimum of 700 hours of supervision. Trainees are competent to teach language, math, and study skills to persons of all ages with learning differences (dyslexia). Training can begin in September, January or June, with intensive courses and practica offered in June, July, and August. ASDEC is a teacher-training center.
