2019 ALTA President’s Award for Distinguished Service

It is with great pleasure that ALTA honors Jo Ann Handy as the recipient of the 2019 President’s Award for Distinguished Service. Jo Ann was born and raised in Catskill, New York. She received her BS in Elementary Education from Keuka College, in Keuka Park, New York. Shortly after, she received a teaching job in Donna, Texas, and moved to the Rio Grande Valley of Texas where she resides today. Jo Ann earned her M.Ed. in Reading from Pan American University and went on to earn her CALT and QI through Southern Methodist University. Jo Ann continues to work as an Adjunct Instructor for SMU’s Learning Therapy Program.

“Having the ALTA credentials after my name signifies that I have met the high standards of ALTA and I gladly display them with pride,” commented Jo Ann. Jo Ann has given countless hours to serving ALTA on the Board of Directors at Large, as Secretary, VP-Membership, Bylaws Chair, and CEU Co-Chair.

ALTA is happy to honor her with the first President’s Award of Service!
