Description: Our nation is in the midst of an educational crisis and the potential answer is in plain sight - dyslexia. Dyslexia affects at least 20% of the US school population. Science has demonstrated the cognitive basis of dyslexia, its neurobiological roots and its clinical characteristics. We now know that the achievement gap between dyslexic and typical readers is present as early as first grade. This makes it all the more important to make sure that schools efficiently and effectively screen for dyslexia, diagnose dyslexia, and provide effective evidence based interventions. We must not fear progress and new information but rather use new knowledge and move forward so that we do not have an action gap and our children and nation benefit. We can do it; we must do it.
